TEACHING THE LAW OF EVIDENCE IN A DIGITAL AGE IN NIGERIA

Abstract

The Law of Evidence is one of the foremost law courses in the training of prospective lawyers in Nigeria and perhaps anywhere in the world. Even though it is mainly litigation-focused, it is a subject that substantially distinguishes the law student from any other student, including those who study law subjects as part of their undergraduate courses. It is also the one law course that serves all others to give life to them in practice. It is therefore a course that demands special attention in content and methodology of teaching. In this article the authors, who are teachers and writers in the Law of Evidence, identify and address some vital matters in the teaching of the course and proffer suggestions on how the subject should be taught to achieve the aim for it and contribute in preparing lawyers who can hit the ground running in meeting the expectations from lawyers from the earliest times of their engagement as lawyers whether in courts or any other forum, including board rooms and community bodies where the gathering and effective management of information or facts to aid decision making is critical.
