Abstract
Since the 1972 United Nations conference at Stockholm, in Sweden, the United Nations has been in a steady and continuous expression and demonstration of environmental concerns, steadfast and firm pursuits of the global environmental objectives through its various organs, agencies, multilateral environmental agreements (MEA), summitries and several negotiations, adoptions and ratifications of resolutions by conference of parties (COPs) and respective member states, aimed at consolidating sustainable development, towards earth survival, through the ecosystem preservation, biodiversity conservation and climate change control programmes. Pursuant to this huge and crucial global environmental agenda, the United Nations and the international community has put in place several legal instruments which serves as the fulcrum for sustainable development and effective environmental governance. The intendment of this paper is to concisely x-ray some of these international environmental legal instruments.
