Abstract
This paper seeks to evaluate the concept of settlement of industrial disputes in Nigeria. The study by way of introduction of the subject matter gave definition of the key terms under the subject of research, which includes settlement, industry, dispute and industrial disputes. It attempts to identify and highlight on the mechanisms for settlement of industrial disputes in Nigeria. To wit; collective bargaining, settlement by the grievance procedure, settlement by mediation, by conciliation, Industrial Arbitration Panel (IAP), by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria and by the National Industrial Court Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Centre. In course of analyzing the statutory provisions on the subject of research, it identified some lacunae and weaknesses therein, including parties to industrial disputes. Consequently, the study summarized the subject matter with findings and ends with conclusion and recommendation.
